A walk in Padley Gorge

We went for a walk around the Longshaw estate and the Padley Gorge on Sunday, hoping to see some nice autumn colours. Some of the trees are starting to turn, but I think the best display is a week or too away.

The boys seemed to be enjoying themselves, climbing on rocks as much as possible... there is no shortage of boulders in the area, being near the eastern gritstone edges of the peak district.

Although we have visited the area loads of times, we'd never actually been into the Longshaw estate. We were pleasantly surprised with the nice cafe and the visitor centre.

After a fair bit of playing, the boys seemed rather tired, so I left them with Nancy at the Grindleford Station cafe, while I legged it back to get the car. After a stiff uphill walk of about 35 minutes, I returned with the car for a quick cup of coffee and an enormous piece of fruitcake.
